A cracked or broken tooth can bring your life to a standstill. Tooth damage can affect your speech, ability to eat, and appearance. By crowning your tooth, our doctors can repair the damage to restore your tooth’s usefulness. Porcelain dental crowns look, feel, and function like natural teeth, making them an excellent option for repairing damaged teeth. At North Aurora Smiles, we offer porcelain crown treatment to our patients in North Aurora, Illinois, and nearby areas.
A dental crown is a hollow, tooth-shaped cap used to repair weak, severely decayed, or damaged teeth. If you crack or break a tooth in an accident, your dental team can fix it with a dental crown to restore its usefulness. A dental crown will cover your tooth from top to bottom, making it strong and healthy again. Crowned teeth can restore the ability to bite and chew normally. As porcelain crowns look very much like natural teeth, they blend right in with your smile, so no one can tell you have had restorative treatment.
Porcelain crowns are not only natural-looking, but they are also highly durable and can easily withstand the pressure of years of biting and chewing. You can enjoy the foods you like without worrying about damaging your crown or tooth. It’s important to avoid chewing on hard foods or ice as it can damage your crown. Additionally, refrain from using your teeth as tools.
Caring for crowns is relatively simple, as it’s the same as caring for natural teeth. Daily brushing, flossing, and routine dental cleaning will keep your crown in good shape long-term. Quality porcelain crowns can last 15 or more years with care before needing to be replaced. Crowning a severely decayed or damaged tooth is a better alternative than having your tooth removed.
