Home » Onlays

If you have a tooth that has become significantly damaged by decay or has broken or chipped due to injury, it is important to seek restorative treatment as soon as possible to prevent further damage. At North Aurora Smiles in North Aurora, IL, we offer several different options for restoring teeth including custom onlays.

What are dental onlays?

Most patients are familiar with traditional fillings for damage or decay. These quick restorations can typically be completed in a single appointment and last for many years. While traditional filling material is sufficient for small cavities or chips, the tooth structure is still weakened. When more extensive damage occurs, a restoration such as onlays can actually increase the strength of the tooth while at the same time preserving tooth structure. Sometimes called a partial crown, onlays are an excellent option for patients with damage that is too big for a filling, but not quite big enough to require a full crown. Onlays meet the doctors’ philosophy of being minimally invasive by preserving the healthy tooth structure. We may recommend onlays for tooth decay, repairing a fractured tooth, replacing old or damaged fillings, or to cosmetically improve a worn tooth.

Preserve your healthy smile with dental onlays

Dental onlays are a safe and effective treatment option to save moderately damaged teeth and prevent further damage. With proper oral hygiene and routine dental care, you can expect your onlay to last for decades.
