Dental fillings are the go-to treatment for cavities. If you have been told you have a cavity, your dentist may recommend a composite resin filling to stop the decay and restore your tooth’s health. The biocompatible, metal, and mercury-free composition of composite resin fillings offers an attractive alternative to silver amalgam for cavity treatment while providing a natural tooth-colored appearance. You can obtain composite fillings for cavity treatment from our doctors at North Aurora Smiles in North Aurora, Illinois.
There are numerous advantages to treating decay with composite resin fillings. First, they are tooth-colored and won’t stand out when you laugh or smile. They are also highly durable and can be used for front or back teeth. Composite fillings are versatile and can be used as bonding to repair minor tooth damage, treat gum recession, or fill gaps between teeth.
Composite fillings are easy to apply and provide adequate protection against decay. The filling bonds directly with your tooth surface, so less enamel has to be removed for treatment. With less drilling, more of your tooth’s natural structure stays intact. These natural-looking fillings blend in with the color of your teeth, making it difficult to tell if you have had cavity treatment.
With proper care, composite fillings can last for years. The following tips from our doctors can help extend the lifespan of your fillings and ensure they provide optimal protection against decay:
