Getting a Head Start
The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that your child visit the dentist for the first time by their first birthday or when their first teeth come in, whichever happens first. Still, many parents do not realize the benefits a pediatric dentist can provide to an infant, and so many children do not come in to see us until later. Give your child a head start and bring them in for their first examination. Infants can start having baby teeth (also called primary teeth) breakthrough at around six months and should have all 20 of their baby teeth by about 3.
Bringing your child in to see Dr. Aziz and Dr. Janes will get them used to coming into our office and will significantly reduce the risk that they grow older with a fear of the dentist.
The First Appointment – What To Expect
When you bring your child in for their first appointment with Dr. Aziz and Dr. Janes, we want them to be as comfortable as possible. Most infants do not want to be separated from Mom or Dad, so the examination will occur as they sit in your lap. During the examination, our doctors will check for proper development in the jaw, teeth, and gums. He will have a conversation about how to best care for your little one’s teeth and gums from home, and you should feel free to ask any questions you have. From pacifier usage to the proper nutrition for healthy teeth, we are happy to answer any questions.
