Sleep apnea, a common yet frequently undiagnosed sleep condition, manifests as intermittent pauses or shallow breathing while asleep. These interruptions, known as apneas, can occur numerous times per hour and disrupt the sleep cycle, leading to fragmented sleep and daytime fatigue. While snoring is a common symptom, not all snorers have sleep apnea, but it’s a significant indicator. At North Aurora Smiles in North Aurora, Illinois, we offer a non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical treatment option for sleep apnea, the Vivos System.
The risks associated with untreated sleep apnea are numerous and severe. Beyond the immediate impact on sleep quality and daytime alertness, sleep apnea increases the risk of developing serious health conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.
Fortunately, effective treatments are available to manage sleep apnea and mitigate its risks. While continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is a well-established treatment, many patients find it cumbersome and uncomfortable, leading to poor compliance. The Vivos System offers a promising solution for those seeking a non-surgical alternative.
The Vivos System is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment approach designed to address the underlying anatomical issues contributing to sleep apnea. It utilizes a patented series of oral appliances that are custom-fit to each patient’s mouth. These appliances are worn during sleep and work to gently and gradually expand the upper airway, improving airflow and reducing the severity of apneas.
By addressing the root cause of sleep apnea and improving airflow, the Vivos System provides a comfortable and non-invasive solution that can enhance sleep quality and overall health. To see if it’s right for you, call North Aurora Smiles of North Aurora, IL, at (630) 984-2223.
