The repercussions of tooth loss can be quite difficult. That’s why we encourage our patients not to wait too long to replace missing teeth. If you’re considering dental implants to restore your smile, we can help. Your dental team at North Aurora Smiles offers safe and effective implant treatment to residents in the local North Aurora, Illinois community. By answering your questions about dental implant procedures, we can give you a better understanding of what to expect from this treatment.
All your teeth have roots that hold them securely in place when you bite and chew. When teeth go missing, so do their roots. Implants are titanium screws that are inserted into your jawbone surgically to replace missing tooth roots. Using implants, our doctors can give your replacement teeth the same stability as natural teeth for biting and chewing. Once inside your jaw, your implant will fuse with your bone tissue to become a solid foundation for your new teeth. Then we will secure a dental crown, bridge, or denture to the implants to rebuild your smile.
Implant surgery can be Painlessly completed in one day. Then, there’s a waiting process for the implant to integrate with your bone system before attaching your permanent restoration. That can take from 3-8 months to complete. If you’re eligible for mini-implants, the process could be shorter. You can discuss this option with our doctors during your implant consultation.
With adequate care, implants can last a lifetime, permanently resolving tooth loss issues. By topping the implants with quality porcelain restorations, our doctors can give you a strong, healthy, winsome smile you can enjoy for years.
Most adults in good health and with the bone density to support implants can qualify for the dental implant procedure. If you have significant bone loss, our doctors can rebuild your bone with a bone graft, thereby enabling you to benefit from implant treatment. A person with bone loss may also qualify for mini-implants.
Dental implants are considered the next best thing to natural teeth because they replace missing teeth in their entirety – roots and all – to restore your smile’s functionality and esthetics.
With implants, you’ll be able to eat, talk, laugh, and smile normally again without worrying about your teeth slipping or coming loose, as can happen with dentures.
Implants improve oral health by preventing bone loss, keeping remaining teeth in alignment, and making it easier to keep the mouth clean to avoid cavities and gum disease.
Implants don’t need support from healthy adjacent teeth, like a fixed bridge. They’re a standalone treatment that provides all the benefits of natural teeth.
